We're Learning ...
... that Nevada is bigger than we thought!
... that sacrificing the comfort of the Camry for the economy of driving the Civic was a great idea ... in theory.
... that the experts weren't kidding when they said to use a tripod and a level to get a good sharp picture. Of course, they would probably be physically ill if they knew most of our shots are taken from a moving car.
... not to blog every day. This is more work than it might appear :)
Photos
So here are some of our photos from the day. We saw some fabulous scenery in California and at both ends of Nevada (not so much in the dreary middle of Nevada). With no further ado, here's what we came up with!

Ready to take off on our journey

This is the western end of US Highway 50. We'll be sticking to this road until we reach Maryland.

Fixed background, moving foreground ... I'm not sure how Sandy got this effect, but it's really cool.

The rugged Sierras (not so rugged when you're staying on the highway)

The view as we descend into the Lake Tahoe basin. Lake Tahoe is Sandy's favorite spot on earth.

Obligatory state line photo. Is there some symbolism in the Nevada sign being crooked?

The Sierras rising over the lake

The Nevada capitol

This is my attempt to get the blossom in focus while getting a blurred image of the statehouse--I'm a complete beginner at this stuff

The little restaurant we had lunch at. Hey, you wanted the whole story, right?

The Nevada shoe tree. People leave their shoes in this tree. That's Nevada for you.

I'm proud of this one--it's the Shoshone Mountains rising over highway 50. If only I'd had Sandy pull over so I could take this one with a tripod.

Leaving Eureka, Nevada
When I did my road trip to Minnesota with my dad in 2007, we were amazed at just how much time we spent driving through Nevada. Did you see any triple-trailer UPS trucks? They were all over I-80...
ReplyDeleteWow!! REALLY good pictures. What an amazing trip! I'm looking forward to reading (and seeing) more on your blog! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteHey Sandy and Zahid,
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for posting the pictures as well as all the comments. I know blogging is hard :) I am also trying to keep up!
Good job!
Yes, posting blogs everyday is a bit much, but good for you two for being ambitious about it! Can't wait to see the places I have never been. Oh, and South Lake Tahoe, Zephyr Cove to be exact, is one of my top spots in all the world. If you come back that way, the milkshakes at the lodge are amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe saw one triple-trailer truck on the 50 ... I can't remember who it was but it wasn't UPS. I'd never seen that before.
ReplyDeleteAnd Lisa, we won't be back at Tahoe on the way back ... but Zephyr Cove is only a couple of hours from home. And you KNOW I'll travel that far for a great milkshake!
Great photos, looks like you guys are having a blast. Just one question.....how come you have no hair?
ReplyDeleteI cut it all off, isn't it cool? Or, more accurately, cold?
